It is recommend that you make a
reservation in advance, as there is no guarantee that will be seats
available on the the day you want to travel.
In all cases there is only one train service a day.

You can make a reservation on
online by using the following methods -
a. Making an 'Instant Confirmation Reservation'
b.
Making a ' Consultant Assisted Reservation'
Instant Confirmation Reservation -
If you make a 'Instant
Confirmation Reservation' link of the service you want to make a
reservation for.
If there is an orange 'Book Now' button show, that means there are seats
available and once you have filled out your reservation details and
press the 'Confirm' button, your reservation will be instantly confirmed
and by clicking on the 'View Details' button you will be able to print
out your 'Booking Confirmation/E-Ticket'.
You will also receive an email that will contain a reservation link.
Click on this link and you will be able to print out your /Booking
Confirmation/E-Ticket'
Consultant Assisted Reservation -
If you make a 'Consultant Assisted Reservation' fill out the reservation
request and click on the 'Submit' button.
Once you have clicked on the 'Submit' button, a reservation
acknowledgement page will be display, meaning that your reservation
request has been sent.
You will also receive an email confirmation, confirming that your
reservation request has been sent.
A Consultant at the Rail New Zealand Reservation Centre will process
your reservation requirements and you will either receive an email
confirming your travel requirements and a "Payment Due Date'.
Payment must be made by the 'Payment Due Date' or your reservation will
automatically cancel.
If you have included your payment details in your reservation request,
your will receive an email confirmation with your 'Ticket
Voucher/Itinerary' attached to your email confirmation as an 'PDF'
attachment.
When making either an 'Instant Confirmation Reservation' or a
'Consultant Assisted Reservation' you have acknowledge that you are
fully aware of the 'Booking/Amendment/Cancellation/Refund' Conditions of
your reservation.

Payment can be made by the
following credit/debit cards -
a. Visa

Bankcard (Australia Only)

American Express
Payment can be made by cheque or bank draft in New Zealand Dollars drawn
on a New Zealand.
New Zealand residents can pay by Internet Banking.
All payments must be received by the 'Payment Due Date'.
For an 'Instant Confirmation Reservation' booking a credit card/debit
card from the above list is required to confirm the reservation.
The answer is no.
You can not make a reservation and pay for it on the day of travel.
You will be traveling on an 'Electronic' Ticket so
there is no need to have a ticket as such.
In you make a reservation via 'Instant Confirmation Reservation'
facility or by 'Consultant Assisted Reservation', you will receive a
'Booking Confirmation/E-Ticket' receipt or a 'Ticket Voucher/Itinerary'
as an attachment with your email confirmation.
It is strongly recommended that you print out
either your 'Booking Confirmation/E-Ticket' receipt or 'Ticket
Voucher/Itinerary' and include them your travel documents.
Valid photo ID may be required on check in

Luggage Requirements
All luggage should be cover by
insurance.
You are entitle to check in 2 pieces of luggage per person with a maximum
weight of 30kgs per person.
Size must be no more than 200 linear cm (height plus length plus width).
Each fare paying passenger can take one small hand bag and/or personal
items such as camera, coat, etc, on board. Passengers are responsible for
all carry on luggage.
Unaccommpanied luggage will not be carried by on any Tranz Scenic rail
service or Interislander ferries.

Carriage of
Bicycles, animals, etc
Bicycles can be carried and will
incur a charge on any Tranz Scenic rail service and Interislander
ferries.
There will be one bicycle per passenger. Bicycles need to have removal
pedals, folding handbars and chains be covered.
Passengers are advised to book their bicycles in advance, especially on
any Tranz Scenic rail service as space is limited. Carriage of bicycles
that has not been pre-booked can not be guaranteed.
No animals are not permitted on any Tranz Scenic rail service other than
seeing-eye dogs.
Animals are permitted on an Interislander ferry and are carried at the
terms of carriage of the Interislander.

Requiring
Extra Assistance
Both Tranz Scenic and
Interislander staff are highly trained in supporting passemgers to make
trip enjoyable, however, if you have any specific requirements that may
assist their staff to make your journey more comfortable, please enter
your requirements, like wheel chair assistance, in the 'Remarks' or
'Comments' field when making a reservation.

Smoking
Under New Zealand law all Tranz
Scenic rail services are no smoking services.
On Interislander ferry services, there are smoking area on board ship.

Do I
need to have
travel insurance
It is recommended that you
have a travel insurance when traveling, to cover your luggage,
personal belongings, medical and hospital care.
If you have medical in your
own country, please check if your medical insurer to what level the
that your insurer will cover you to before leaving your country.
If you require travel
insurance or require to top up your medical/travel insurance,
please contact your professional travel agent for advice.

Seating
Requirements on Train Services
Seating allocation on all Tranz
Scenic train services is done on check in on day of travel.
Seating requirements can be requested at the time of a reservation being
made.
