A 'Family' consists of a Family with their children aged 10-17yrs old. A 20% discount applies to the accommodation ONLY

BOOKING CONDITIONS

  • There is a non refundable deposit of NZ$80.00 per person plus Booking Fee payable at time of reservation.

  • There will be a NZ$8 per person change fee once reservation has been confirmed.

All fees must be paid before Track Hut Passes are issued. For safety reasons hut Passes are NOT transferable.

CANCELLATION & REFUND CONDITIONS

  • If cancellation is made prior 7 Days before the start date of the walk, loss of deposit plus 25% of the cost of the track fees.

  • If cancellation is made within 7 days of track start date, loss of deposit & 50% of the cost of the track fees.

  • If cancellation is due to medical reasons, loss of deposit, a medical certificate & 25% of the track fee fees.

  • On day of departure - NO REFUND

  • No refund on transport after tickets have been issued.

The Track cancellation & change fees are imposed by the Department of Conservation.

Department of Conservation will not be responsible for any costs incurred by intending walkers. 

Travel insurance should be considered to cover costs associated with any cancellation or delay.

Track access is limited to 40 people per day.

TRAVEL
There is a coach service from Queenstown to beginning of the Routeburn Track at 8am & 12 noon daily. Price approx: NZ$30 per person. Travelling time approx: 1.5hrs and is operated by Backpacker Express. For Backpacker Express reservations.

Travel to The Divide from Te Anau or from Milford Sound to The Divide can be by Newmans Coachlines or Fiordland Tracknet.

Travel from The Divide to either Te Anau, Te Anau Downs (Beginning of the Milford Track) or Milford Sound is available by the above Operators.

If you have Travelpass, you can use your Travelpass for the Queenstown/Te Anau to The Divide or to/from Milford Sound to The Divide. Travel to/from Queenstown by Backpacker Express is not available with Travelpass.

Through our Reservation Centre, you can purchase Travelpass and/or other Coach Passes.

EQUIPMENT
All walkers are to supply their own food, cooking utensils, sleeping bags, personal gear, cook their own meals & help to keep the huts clean & tidy.

Campers will also need - Tent, gas cooker & bed roll.

Please allow the minimum of 3 days to walk the Routeburn Track. A reasonable amount of fitness is required to walk the 12kms per day.

Weather in the Fiordland region is changable. Heavy rain, driving wind and snow in summer can cause rapid temperature drops. Fording floodwaters up to a metre (3 feet) may be necessary after heavy rain. Warm woollen or poly propylene clothing is essential.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation is provided at four Department of Conservation huts and two camp sites.

Huts have cold running water, gas cooking rings, heating, lighting and flush toilets. Walkers sleep in communal bunk rooms with mattress provided.

Camping is only permitted in the DESIGNATED CAMPSITES and campers MAY NOT use the Hut facilities.

Department of Conservation Staff are in residence at each of the Huts and have radio telephone access for weather updates and in cases of emergency.

TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS
If travelling within New Zealand, we would suggest you have a Travelpass giving you travel on InterCity Coachlines, Newmans Coachlines, Tranz Scenic Rail Services & Interislander Ferry Services. Optional flight sectors on Air New Zealand National or Link services are available. Travelpass can be "Open" dated.

With regards to accommodation, if you are interested in back packing for NZ$30 you purchase the VIP Backpackers Card where you can receive discounts on accommodation and attractions throughout New Zealand, Australia, etc. Alternatively, through the New Zealand Accommodation Pass, you can stay a wide range of Motels and 3-4 Star Hotels through out New Zealand.

Reservations for the Routeburn Track are essential.
